Guidance for students who wish to study in the United States is available at the American Educational Advising Center - the only U.S. Embassy-affiliated center in Nairobi.

The purpose of the Center is to provide timely, accurate, unbiased information about all accredited U.S. higher education institutions for persons wishing to study in the U.S. Also available in the Center are numerous resources including publications, CDs, testing materials, videos, computer stations, individualized services and tuitions for SAT, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT and GED.

The Advising Center is open Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., closed on American and Kenyan holidays.

Advising Options

Undergraduate sessions are held first, third and fifth Fridays at 9:00 am at Maksons Plaza Parklands Road, 2nd Floor; second and fourth Fridays at 9:00 am at the Embassy, Gigiri.

Graduate sessions are held each Friday at 1:00 pm at Maksons Plaza Parklands Road, 2nd Floor.

Individual Consultations

The American Educational Advising Center also offers individual advising for a fee, to help interested, qualified students choose an appropriate course of study and institution. Information and services available at the center include:

  • Profiles of U.S. institutions, including course descriptions
  • A wide range of publications and audio-visual materials
  • Counseling on study options
  • Application procedures and strategies
  • Financial assistance options
  • Information on standardized tests required for admission such as TOEFL, SAT, GRE and GMA
  • Pre-departure orientation
  • References and guides to living and studying in the U.S.
  • Visa information
