Dance in Memory of Reporter Daniel Pearl October 25, 2009
Nairobi, 22 October 2009
Daniel Pearl was a widely known and well respected Wall Street Journal reporter, who was kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story. Daniel Pearl World Music Days is an annual event held each October, to coincide with Pearl’s October 10 birthday. This year he would have been 46 years old. An accomplished musician, Pearl connected to people through music in every country he visited, often joining local music groups and participating in impromptu jam sessions.
The Paa Ya Paa Arts Centre has commemorated Daniel Pearl World Music Days each year since its inception in 2002, with a “Harmony for Humanity” program that showcases original music, lyrics, poetry, stories, articles, art, and photography that reaffirm and intensify Daniel Pearl’s convictions that music, truth, honesty and dialogue can build bridges across cultural divides and help achieve international friendship.
As in past years, the U.S. Embassy is supporting this year’s Paa Ya Paa Harmony for Humanity program. This year the program will begin at 3:30 p.m. on October 25 at Paa Ya Paa (off Kiambu Road.)
