Nakumatt and Molo fire victims receive U. S. government assistance
February 19, 2009
Since the Nakumatt and Molo tragedies struck Kenya, the United States Government and private U.S. citizens have worked tirelessly to assist the victims of the fire tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. In the week following the fire, the U.S. Embassy organized a blood drive that was held at the Embassy to assist hospitals in caring for burn patients, and Embassy flags were flown at half staff. The Jordan Foundation, in concert with the Embassy, brought in physicians and nurses to assist in assessment and treatment of the victims.
In response to a national appeal for the fire victims, the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the donation of approximately $1 Million (80 Million KShs) worth of medical supplies to hospitals treating the burn patients. 100 boxes of sterile dressings and burn care supplies will be distributed to hospitals in Nairobi and Nakuru, while the U.S.-based Jordan Foundation is donating more than $500,000 (40 Million KShs) worth of skin grafts for transplant.
