2007 SPEECHES

Ambassador Ranneberger lauds U.S.-Kenya Partnership

October 31, 2007

The United States Ambassador to Kenya Michael Ranneberger said yesterday that Partnership between the U.S. and Kenya is his primary focus and the most important initiatives he supports are partnerships that help create jobs and opportunity in both Kenya and the United States.

Ambassador Ranneberger made the remarks in Nairobi at the launch of a marketing partnership between the Foreign Commercial Service office of the U.S. Mission in Nairobi and FedEx Kenya.  He said FedEx Kenya and the world-wide FedEx network solve problems for importers and exporters every day, simplifying their work and facilitating trade.  “This public-private partnership, of FedEx and the U.S. Commercial Service, shows how government and the private sector can combine forces to better service their clients, and in the process help create jobs,” said Ambassador Ranneberger.

He announced that this year, the U.S. Mission, through its Foreign Commercial Service office, is organizing groups of leading Kenyan businesses to visit key trade shows in the United States.  Kenyan business leaders involved in road construction, food processing and packaging, broadcasting, dentistry, and general construction are invited to contact the Commercial Service.  “In the past, these visits to leading trade shows have resulted in a number of successes, including signed distributorship agreements, joint ventures and strategic alliances, as well as the direct purchase of supplies and capital equipment,” said the Ambassador.

The primary purpose of FedEx and Commercial Service initiative is to support trade by combining private sector and U.S. government resources.  Specifically, this initiative provides businesses, large and small, with access to vital trade tools so they do not have to tackle the export process alone.
