WARDEN MESSAGE

U.S. Embassy Nairobi wishes to alert the U.S. resident community in Nairobi to several recent, attacks/robberies by armed criminals on people walking or jogging in Karura Forest including several U.S. citizens.  The forest is located across United Nations Avenue from the Chancery, on the Limuru Road side of the United Nations complex.  The closest access road to the Chancery is off United Nations Avenue near the Savanna Restaurant.
Police are investigating and have increased patrols in the area.  However, the Embassy strongly recommends against going into Karura Forest, or traveling on the access road off United Nations Avenue, until the situation is resolved and rendered safe.
U.S. citizens who travel to or reside in Kenya are encouraged to register through the State Department’s travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov.  By registering, U.S. citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.  Americans without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.  The U.S. Embassy is located on United Nations Avenue, Gigiri, Nairobi, Kenya; telephone (254) (20) 363-6000; fax (254) (20) 363-6157.  In the event of an after-hours emergency, the Embassy duty officer may be contacted at (254) (20) 363-6000.  The Embassy home page is http://kenya.usembassy.gov.
